The construction of the log home begins after the customer and an architect, specializing in log homes, have developed the design and layout specific to the home owners needs, wants and dreams.

The home owner chooses either Northern White or Red Pine trees that are hand selected from the Sault St. Marie region, by the owner/builder of Longwoods Log Homes. The trees range in diameter of 15 to 24 inches.

After hand peeling the bark off the trees, the logs are treated to protect them against fungus, mould and discolouration. Each log is then scribed to fit precisely on top of the log below, providing a weather tight seal and insulation rating of approximately R40.

The log shell is complete and ready to be dismantled for relocation in approximately eight weeks, dependant on the size, style and design.

When the house is reconstructed, the work on the interior may begin. The owners of the home may now choose to become their own personal contractors, although Longwoods Log Homes will assist until the home is fully complete.
